August 2015

I am going to be playing a few shows in the coming weeks:

July 31 I’ll be with Ellen Burr (flute), Stan Smith (guitar), and Breeze Smith (drums), playing a set of jazz/improvised music at the Cultural Alliance of Long Beach gallery: 729 Pine. 7:30 PM. $5. Several interesting bands will play after us. Facebook event.

August 22 I’ll be at the same venue with the Jack Curtis Dubowsky Ensemble playing a live score to the silent film “The Golem.” This version of the JCDE has the namesake on keyboard, Alicia Byer (clarinet), and Charles Sharp (saxophones). 8PM.

August 29 The Decisive Instant, the creative music orchestra I co-lead with Charles Sharp, will be playing as part of the Music Walk at the Carlsbad Music Festival. This is the first out-of-town performance by this group, and we’ll be joined by some great players from the San Diego area, including Peter Kuhn and Nathan Hubbard.

Hope to see you at one of these gigs. More cool stuff is in the works which I don’t want to jinx…

Dana Reason Trio Live Video

About once a year Dana Reason comes to Southern California and convenes a trio with Peter Valsamis and me. Here’s a video of the first half of our show in Long Beach June 18.

Set list: “Lonely Woman” (Ornette Coleman), “Six Situational Pieces” (Reason/Schwartz/Valsamis), “Resituational Remix”(Reason/Schwartz/Valsamis), and “Broken Shadows” (Coleman).

Thanks Dave Williams and CALB for the gig & video.
