Three things are happening in the next 2 months.
First, I am doing a few shows with the Venice Symphony Orchestra. This is really a pop band, mixing originals and covers, vocals and instrumentals, with classical horn and string players fronting a rock rhythm section. Not sure which category I’m supposed to be, but the leader is a bass player, so that makes me a bass player’s bass player, right? Some pretty heavy cats are usually on this too, like Jeremy Brown from Scott Weiland’s band and Tripp Beam from Moby’s. June 7 we’re at the 15 Rose hotel in Venice. No prize for guessing the address.
June 21 we’re at the Primitivo wine bar on Abbott Kinney. Details here: http://www.venicesymphony.org/
Second, I’ll be at the Creative Music Studio for a week, trying to absorb what I can from Karl Berger, Henry Threadgill, and a bunch of other amazing people. This is the third retreat they’ve put on. You can see videos of the first two at https://www.youtube.com/user/CMSWorkshops
Third, Next, the trio of Andrea Centazzo, Charles Sharp, and me, will be doing a bunch of shows. June 20 we’re at The Battery Books & Music in South Pasadena, July 6 we’re at the Open Gate series in Eagle Rock, July 20 at Berkeley Arts, and July 21 at Luna’s in Sacramento, with more Bay Area shows in the works. This is a free improvisation trio which covers an ever-growing range of colors and textures. It’s very exciting to play with these guys; we are constantly surprising and supporting each other, often at the same time.
